Better Dads Better Kids

Written as a speech that was given to the Kiwanis clubs and the Rotary 

Well I am going to talk about religion and politics  — I want God to Bless America  But for that to happen I believe we need to look at life from a Christian WORDview

My goal is to find the truth…….If you disagree I would love to have that discussion with you   

I would like to introduce you to thefridgeproject     I think we have done a good job around Decatur of helping people get food in the fridge… we are going to be celebrating the 20^th year of the WSOy food drive this year…. But I think we can’t lose site of the fact that giving them a fish is good but teaching them to fish is better

The idea of the fridge project is not just to get food on the inside of the fridge but also put information knowledge and wisdom on the outside  

I fixed a corn dog for my 5 year grandson Eli.    He ate it quickly and say PaPa I want another one.    I said that was the last one Eli how about I fix you a hot dog.   No I don’t like hot dogs.  

There is a lot that is going on in the world that has similar logic.    

Is it true that you have to brush your teeth?  Because some say that all truth is relative so to say that you have to brush your teeth may be true for you but it may not necessarily be true for me.   But is it true that all truth is relative because to say that there is no truth can’t be true.  But it claims to be true.  

Again complicated logic

I wrote a book on being a Dad.    On ways to improve our Christian character development  — that has become offensive to some.   As I talk about the book it is now described as talking religion and politics.  

I don’t know if any of you have had the chance to read it but I discuss part of our success as parents came from keeping good quotes on the refrigerator.

Over the years I organized them into 13 principles that I believe can help set your and your kids moral compasses….   There was so much that we people use to naturally learn growing up on the farm…. But today we have to teach those things to BuildtheHome and Change the World.  

Many of these quotes coming from famous UCLA basketball coach John Wooden … who was not only a great teacher of basketball but also of life.   His 2 sets of 3’s includes don’t whine don’t complain and don’t make excuses….  Which is one of my major concerns with our country today.   

I think the church could do a much better job of teaching it’s Worldview.    What are the glasses that you use to see the world? 

Look up Summit Ministries – they do a terrific job of teaching this..

Where we ask the question do you live according to the flesh (the sinful nature) or do you live according to the spirit.   Because if you live according to flesh that leads to death.   But if you live according to spirit that can lead to eternal life and peace.   But it also leads to a winning society here on earth.

As I studied for writing the book, I determined that one of the most important things in life… Is to Grow, Develop and Mature to a point where you can help others do the same.   What I refer to as winning the generational relay race.  If you drop the baton and don’t ever mature, it is really hard to help your kids mature.  

Right now, we see part of the solution as spending trillions of dollars on trying to leave a better planet for our kids… how about leaving better kids for our planet?

If you buy a brand new shiny TESLA and drive it to the gas station,  you are going to think it is a hunk of junk if you don’t know who to plug it in.   John Wooden was one of the greatest basketball coaches by teaching Biblical Wisdom.  So many of our kids are plugged in to the wrong things.  On the back of the book I say do kids come with an owner’s manual.   I believe the Bible is that manual we are looking for and I hope my book will lead you there.   

They say your character is how you act when no one is watching.   I believe that is easier if we realize that God is always watching.  

Kids have to understand their purpose.    —- READ    

How about people that are waiting for life to treat them fairly.   I went to this Peace Hub meeting recently… all this talk about treating people fairly …  Good luck — Job 1:1 says Job was blameless but God made his life difficult

The government has the Equality Act so I guess it’s all figured out… I think a better approach is to teach kids how to be good winners and good losers.  

I think a kid has to understand Good Better Best – Never let it rest until your good becomes better and your better becomes best – Proverbs is a great book of the Bible to learn good habits … so many kids have never seen what it means to have a good work ethic 

Bottom Line is We have to get the L out of our kids .. Our kids are stuck in the World,  we need to get them stuck in the WORD. 

WE put so much garbage entertainment into our kids – we have to expect to get garbage out –we are banning DR Suess but not the vulgar hip hop music 

Serve rather than deserve… This one changed my marriage.  —want your prayer answered pray God who do you want me to serve today   

Everybody wants a better wage but not everyone is willing to prepare to be ready when that better wage comes along.    

If I were God,  I would have wrote a different story but I believe some amazing things are going to happen from the Oberheim situation and the Peacemaker Project  703

She talked about setting kids moral compasses  — that is the goal of the fridge project to use these 13 principles—- 100 different stories – 100 different Bible verses to teach kids the one true view of the World – a WORD view  

Christians aren’t perfect but our Jesus is.   While we as a country may not have perfected the Biblical WORDview,  there are some that are trying to kick that to the curb and fundamentally change our country.    

What worldview is most prevalent in American today … It’s not Islam or Buddhism It’s the Social Justice Worldview and I think it is described  by this banner Have you seen this around town.     

BLACK LIVES MATTER  — Why …Why do black lives matter?   Is it because of Evolution or is because they are made in the image of God.   There should just be one race, the human race.  So If we agree that Black Lives Matter,  the next question should be what worldview is best for the Black community. 

It would seem that a large majority now realize defunding the police is a bad idea.   But how many good cops have lost by a lack of support. 

The BLM worldview says there is NO forgiveness for Slavery.    If you look at Principle #12 and study Matthew Wests song.   Even outside of the Bible are studies of the bitterness that is created when we don’t forgive.    For the best interest of the people of BLM, they have to learn how to forgive ……. stuff like the 1619 project is teaching our kids to hate our country and the people that make it up and that is a losing strategy.  This speaker at the peace hub tried to slip that into the conversation.    Principle #7 is Don’t Be a Victim.   The focus becomes whining and complaining and thinking they have a good excuse for not overcoming the circumstances in their lives.  They also seem to have an eye for eye approach that isn’t very biblical.  

What is wrong with the Marxism that it promotes?   It puts too much emphasis on dividing up the pie and not enough emphasis on growing the pie.   

Marx also believed in Critical Theory.    

How does Transgenderism and Black Lives Matter become the same movement?

It’s all about the oppressed and the oppressor.  

In the book I tell the story of Jim Collins whose son was killed by a drunk driver.   Is that fair?  Of Inky Johnson who grew up in horrible Ghetto conditions to make it out through football but then got hurt.  Is that fair?  How about Nick Vujicic who was born with no arms and no legs?  But these people didn’t see themselves as victims.   They made the best of the way things turned out.  

Marx saw the family structure as part of this oppression and not as a big part of the solution.  There are lots of reasons to believe that Black Lives Matter is a flesh worldview as opposed to a Biblical WORDview.

Ideas have consequences.  Bad ideas have victims.   

Womans rights are human rights  — Its not that we want women to step back but we need Men to step up — to fix society I think we need to get the church right – to get the church right we need to get family right – to get family right we need to get marriages right and to get marriages right we need Men to step up and be the leaders they are called to be 

SCIENCE is REAL  —-  Is this statement trying to say that God isn’t?

What I learned in biology about boys and girls I guess my teachers didn’t know about these new things. 

Try buying a rooster for eggs or a bull for milk.   God knew what he was doing when he made us male and female.   There are always exceptions to the rule but that is no reason to change the rules.

Anybody have a car that has traveled 593 million miles.    

The sun is 93 million miles away… if it were any closer we would burn up.   Any further away we would freeze… each year our earth rotates 593 million miles around the sun.     So if your car sits,  it will travel that far every year.  

Some worldviews have you believe this happened by chance.. the Christian WORDview focuses on the designer.    

Science is the process of figuring out what God already knows.   Not disproving his existence and worth.  

LOVE is LOVE – What is the first command that God gave us in Genesis.    1:26  Be fruitful and multiply ….  What did God command Noah and his family after the flood  — be fruitful and multiple….   A little common sense tells you that IN God’s plan SEX MARRIAGE and BABIES is a package deal to follow this command.  Not all the LBTQABC123 things we have made it into today.  

KINDNESS is EVERYTHING ….. What are the 2 great commandments  –  Love God and Love our Neighbor … it seems in some ways we have gotten better at one IF IF love is being more accepting of others … but we have been neglecting the other.     Proverbs 9:10 says the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge and leads to understanding.  The Devil can be really nice at times.   He will appear to give you what you want.    God gives you what you need and sometimes that is discipline.  

What if our community – led by the churches and non profits  — could get these 13 principles on every fridge –    Dynagraphics has agreed to print them.. churches could produce the magnets with their information so when people have questions they can contact the church 

Build the Home Change the World – but for me Decatur is my world — So my goal is to improve Decatur
